This is a fun thing to make and really not that hard. There are so many versions of this out there and you can do really anything you want. I was having a little party and my theme was kinda like a fair so I wanted to have some popcorn out, but not just plain popcorn.
First you need to decide what you want to put in your popcorn. I like the way white chocolate taste on popcorn so I went with that. I needed some nuts to go with this so I grabbed some candied coated pecans and almonds. And grabbed some sugar sprinkles for color. You can use M&M’s, peanuts, Sixlets, decorative cake sprinkles or just anything to get the look and flavor you want.
I started by making the popcorn. I used Lite ACT II since it’s not as buttery. One popped I poured it out on a large piece of parchment paper and removed any up-popped kernels. I scattered the almonds and pecans over the popcorn.
I took a bag of white chocolate melts and put them in a ziplock bag. That was microwaved for 1 minute, then kneaded the bag and microwaved for another 30 seconds and kneaded more to make sure everything was melted and there were no solid pieces. I cut a tip off of one corner and squeezed the chocolate over the popcorn/nuts.
Then I took a spatula and started to flip and toss my mixture together trying to coat everything as much as I could. I let that rest for a few minutes and set up a little. Then flipped and tossed a little more.
After my popcorn was nicely coated I sprinkled some colored sugars over the mixture. I like doing that after it’s mixed so the sprinkles don’t get coated too much with chocolate and get covered and you can’t see that they are even there. Then tossed it around a little more and let set. When this was completely set I put it into ziplock bags to keep fresh till it was time to put out for the party.
I had these fun plastic popcorn containers I used. The other popcorn was “Red Hot” popcorn. I didn’t take any pictures while I was making it but the recipe is below. Not hard to do at all!
Red Hot Popcorn
- 5 cups popped popcorn
- 1/2 cup Red Hot candies (small bag)
- 1/4 water
Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Line large baking sheet (I used 2 medium sheets to get all the popcorn to fit) with parchment paper and spread out the popcorn and set to the side. Put candies in a saucepan with the water over medium high heat till candies are completely melted. Drizzle melted candy over popcorn. Take a large spoon and scoop, flip and toss popcorn around to coat as much as possible.
Put pan (s) in the oven for 20 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Remove from oven and let cool.
